Katharyn Hutson was the lab manager of the Patzke lab from Aug-2021 until Feb-2023. In addition to managing daily lab activities, her research project was to create conditional knockouts in iPSC lines. Her techniques include cell culturing, molecular cloning, PCR, and Western blotting. Katharyn has been with the lab since August 2021. She graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 2018 with a B.S. in Human Biology and minors in Sociology and Chemistry. In 2018 she won the Ulysses Grant Weatherly Award for Best Undergraduate Paper for her independent research in sociology. In 2017 she was a summer intern at the National Institutes of Health through the AMGEN Scholars program. There she worked in the Laboratory of Human Carcinogenesis to study the role of dopamine receptor D1 (DRD1) in lung cancer using immunoblotting and kinome profiling techniques.

Katharyn enjoys traveling, camping, and playing board games with her family and friends. She values open conversations about climate change and social inequalities.
